Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park is a zoo situated in the hill town of Darjeeling, about a distance of 3km from Darjeeling Railway Station. It is also called Darjeeling Zoo.
In 1958 the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park i.e., the Himalayan Zoological Park was established, as a joint venture of Government of India and Government of West Bengal. This is also the high altitude zoo in India, it is situated at an altitude of 7,000 ft. In 1975, the park was renamed as Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park by Indra Gandhi, the Prime Minister of India. She dedicated it to the memory of Padmaja Naidu.
Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park spread over an area of 67.56 acres. It is the first recipient of International award of ‘The Earth Heroes 2014’. This park was famous for its conservation breeding programs of Red Panda, Snow Leopards, Tibetan Wolf and other highly endangered animal species of Eastern Himalayas.

Additionally, the institute was founded as a tribute to the remarkable achievement of Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary in conquering Mount Everest in 1953. Visitors to the institute can observe a collection of equipment, particularly those utilized in Mount Everest expeditions by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa.
